You don’t have to do this if you don’t really have their resources.  There are many ways to generate low cost website traffic without having to spend what you don’t have or can’t afford.  Many people have banked on high cost methods and have ended up losing their shirt over it.

This is a sure and proven method.  Rarely would you see a site where there is no link to another site. First off, I hate this!!  But it is important.  There are many e-zines and online encyclopedias on the internet which provide free space for articles to be submitted.  If you want to save costs, but don’t mind spending the time you can do the articles yourself.  There are many freelance writers who are willing to write for you for a small fee, but to save money, it is wise to do those articles yourself.

Write articles that are themed along with the niche of your site.  Write something that you have expertise on so that when people read it, they can feel your knowledge about the subject and will be eager to go to your site.  Write articles that produce tips and guidelines to the subject or niche your site has.

Include a resource box at the end of your article that can link them to your site.  Write a little about yourself and your site.  If you provide a light, information-laden and interesting article, people will go to your site for more.

Create a Newsletter

This may sound like hard work because of all the articles you may need to use to build a newsletter but on the contrary, it is not.   There are many writers and sites that are willing to provide free articles as long as they can get their name in your newsletter.  This will also provide free advertising for them as well. As your newsletter gets pass around, you can widen your public awareness and build an opt-in list that can regularly visit your site.  I use Aweber.

Join Online Communities and Forums

This only requires your time and nothing else.  You can share your knowledge and expertise with many online communities as well as your website.  You can get free advertising when you go to forums that have the same subject or niche with your site.

Share your two cents and let them see how knowledgeable you are about the subject.  As you build your reputation, you also build the reputation of your site, making it a reputable and honest business that could be frequented and trusted by many people.

Again, these are free and take alot of time to get moving on, but the benefits can be ridiculous!

One of the greatest difficulties in being a new webmaster is trying to acquire traffic.  This is because trying to build legitimate traffic requires both time and money.  How is this so?  Well, if a webmaster is trying to obtain traffic through search engines, they will need to spend a great deal of time with link-building and content creation.  If they are trying to get traffic through a pay-per-click program, they will have to invest hundreds to thousands of dollars if they want to take advantage of a high-performance keyword.  However, there is another alternative that can allow a webmaster to get tons of traffic without having to invest too much in time or money.  It involves purchasing expired domain names.

Using content to get subscribers, prospects, build reputations and get traffic to your blogs can be very powerful… but ONLY if done right!

We are not talking about content on your own blogs here, but rather posts and content that you use on other sites to promote yours.

In school, we are all taught to always finish a story with a closing paragraph and so when we start writing to promote ourselves online, we do just that, complete with a close. Let us ask you this (actually quoted from a good Australian friend of ours named Dean)…

“If you close your content, wouldn’t that satisfy the reader’s appetite in such a way that that there was no need for them to go any further.”

In other words, why would they need to take action on anything and search for further information about the topic if you already gave it to them?

We thought about this a lot and the more we did, the more it made sense. Your content needs to be crafted in such a way that if a reader wants a closing paragraph, then why shouldn’t we link to it so the reader has to take the action we want (such as visit our site).

Some of our favorite movies are those which don’t finish with a happy ending. No, we are not masochists but they finish in such a way that leaves us wondering whether there’s going to be a next installment. It’s like you’ve built to a crescendo and the hero appears to have won but the last scene reveals something sinister brewing beneath the surface. Then the end credits roll and we all think…

“What the…????”

We want to know what happens; we want to know more but we’re going to have to wait until version 2 hits the big screen. With your content, the reader doesn’t need to wait because there are a couple of live links in our content with specific call to action instructions they can click on to find out more. And that’s exactly what we want them to do… isn’t it?

We are not saying you should finish your content in such a way that it doesn’t make sense but instead do it in a way to entice the reader to take a look out of curiosity at what we have got to offer.

There is a fine line between readers just reading content as opposed to reading and clicking through and that fine line in our opinion is the closing paragraph. There are so many freakin’ ways to get free traffic out there that it should be illegal.  The best part is you can send it to your website or directly to affiliate offers. These ideas are relatively old, but many people still don’t know the basics.  People have made millions of dollars using classified sites like Craigs List and Gumtree, but there are plenty of other locations for it.  Start thinking about where people go on the internet for free…

Facebook, MySpace, YouTube… yeah no brainers right?

Have you thought about utilizing forums?  There are like hundreds of thousands of niche forums and blogs out there nowadays.  All you have to do is dig into the ones that have potential.  The key is not to look like a newbie and spam the hell out of them.  If these blogs or forums are in your niche, then you should probably visit and learn from them often.   Post like 30 times before you start mentioning your product or service.  And no, I don’t mean posting 30 times per night.  Get involved, become a regular.  All of the sudden your credibility is there and when you drop a hint or link to a product, it doesn;t look like spam.  Again, I am not suggesting you should visit Asian MILF Forums or Teen Blog’s if you have no interest in those niches…  Stick with what you know and what you like.  You can be an expert that way.

The same with social sites like Facebook.  Become a member of a number of groups, add alot of friends and don’t spam at first… then when the time is right… kapow!!!  Hammer those links and make some money.
